Youth Activities Services
Youth Activities Services (YAS) work together with young people to plan, organise and experience a wide range of exciting activities, committee run programs, music and sporting events that are responsive to the needs and wants of youth in the community. All young people are encouraged to participate and are offered the support and assistance they may need to operate and co-operate within a group. The YAS recognises that young people have many different interests, and thus tries to organise activities that appeal to a number of different people. The YAS focuses on promoting a safe, secure and non-discriminatory environment in which activities are run.
Youth Space
Youth Services has recently opened a room for youth. This room is located near the council offices on Nolan Street. The room is equipped with a Table Tennis Table, Pool Table, a range of Musical Equipment, Play Station 3 with games, and more. The Space is open to young people weekdays after school from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. There are different activities each day of the week including pool and table tennis competitions, different sports, program for girls and a range of other activities all available for free!
Youth Committees
Our after school programs include youth committees such as M.A.D Youth Productions (developing short films), the FReeZA Committee Amplify Productions, Tomorrow's Leaders Today (TLT) and various other activity groups that are always open to new members and free to join!
The Youth Committees bring young people together to discuss things that need to be improved for young people living in Maryborough, Talbot, Carisbrook, Bealiba, Timor, Dunolly and surrounding areas. This could be something like working on developing a skate-park, organising a disco, or changing the way young people are treated in the streets. If you would like to join a Youth Committee contact Cara Barnes. Alternatively, if you, or a group of friends have a new idea for a project or group, Cara would love to hear about it, so drop into the Youth and Family Services office, situated on Nolan Street at the old school in Maryborough anytime.
FReeZA
Amplify Productions is our local FReeZA Committee, comprising of young people aged between 12 and 25. FReeZA is a program that offers young people a chance to organise drug, alcohol and smoke-free events for young people within the Central Goldfields Shire region, such as annual events like "Battle of the Bands" and The New Years Eve Celebration. Amplify Productions can also offer young budding performers a platform to launch their musical careers. Members meet weekly and play an active role in organising everything associated with running an event, including booking local and national bands, sound and lighting, advertising and promotion. The committee makes all of the decisions about what sort of gigs to put on, whether to have live bands, DJs or something different. Amplify Productions provides a great opportunity for young people to build their skills around communication, leadership and teamwork, and most importantly, to be recognised for their achievements. We are always after new members, so if you think this sounds like fun, contact Cara.
Teenage School Holiday Program
Teenage School Holiday Program activities are also run by Youth and Family Services during every school holiday break. All of the activities are fully supervised and offered to young people aged between 11 and 18 at a low cost to you. We provide loads of fun activities such as trips to Melbourne, ice-skating, go-carting, skateboard coaching, rock climbing and much more! The School Holiday Program is different each school holidays and we welcome ideas from you so let us know if there is something you would like to do!
