Grant money available for young athletes
Young athletes in Central Goldfields Shire may be eligible for up to $500 as part of the Australian Government's Local Sporting Champions program - an initiative designed to provide financial assistance to junior sportsmen and women.
The money provided is to contribute to the costs of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment needed when competing at state or national events that have been endorsed by the National Sporting Organisation (NSO).
Recreation Manager at Central Goldfields Shire Council Martin Mark said the program can provide valuable financial assistance.
"Junior athletes find it difficult to meet the ongoing and significant costs associated with participating in sporting competitions, particularly those from regional areas," said Mr Mark.
"The Local Sporting Champions program can really help young athletes peruse their sporting dreams. This shire has a lot of very talented young athletes and it would be great to see some assistance go to them," Mr Mark said.
Grants of $500 will be available for successful individual applicants and $3000 for successful team applicants.
Applications are now open and athletes aged between 12 and 18 competing in an NSO endorsed event are encouraged to apply. Application forms, frequently asked questions and eligibility criteria can be found at http://www.ausport.gov.au/.
