Council turns its attention to tourism

Council turns its attention to tourism

Central Goldfields Shire Council will launch its latest tourism strategy this weekend at the Talbot Farmers' Market. The strategy aims to guide Council's decisions and pave a path for a strong future in the tourism industry.

The strategy focuses on matters such as destination branding, enterprise development, product development, local heritage and improved marketing of major Shire events.

Minister for Agriculture and Small Business and Member for Ripon, Joe Helper will be at the event to show his support and officially launch the strategy.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Chris Meddows-Taylor said the launch of the strategy is an exciting time for Central Goldfields Shire.

"Research, community consultation and careful planning have combined to develop a logical strategy that will provide a sound basis for Council's decisions.

"Our shire has much to offer in areas of history and heritage, sporting events, cultural events, and culinary delights."

The event's formalities will commence at 9 am in Market Square. The launch coincides with the fourth anniversary of the Talbot Farmers' Market.

"I hope to see many members of our community, particularly those involved in the tourism industry, at the event. It will be a great morning," Cr Meddows-Taylor said.

The strategy was formally adopted by Central Goldfields Shire Council in January this year and forms part of Council's major business plan for 2006 - 2010.
