About Council

About Council

Central Goldfields Shire was created by Order of the Governor in Council on 19 January 1995 when the former municipalities of the City of Maryborough and the Shires of Tullaroop and parts of Bet Bet, Talbot and Clunes were amalgamated.

The first democratically elected Central Goldfields Shire Council was elected on 15 March 1997 following a period overseen by three commissioners appointed by the State Government.
