Voluntary work is very important in the Central Goldfields community; Council recognises and greatly values this generosity and supports the work of volunteers, community organisations and groups within the municipality.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer in Central Goldfields Shire please find below a list of the various key service facilities where we would always welcome additional assistance.
Council only takes members of the community who want to volunteer on an ongoing basis. Volunteers are not accepted for people who are looking for experience in the hope of getting a job.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Volunteering for Meals on Wheels enables you to express your involvement in the community without taking huge chunks of your time. If you have an hour and a half to fill in once a month, once a fortnight, once a week, or just now and then, any day of the week, consider joining our team of community-minded people who enjoy meeting people, getting out and about and enabling frail and aged people to remain living in their own homes as long as possible. Meals are collected from Maryborough District Health Service at 11.15 am and the round is usually completed by 12.45pm. Drive with a friend or take some time out by yourself! Phone, Leanne Tucker, Planned Activity/Volunteer Coordinator on (03) 5461 0675
PLANNED ACTIVITY GROUP/SOCIAL SUPPORT
Volunteers at planned activity group (PAG) assist in the operation of the program which includes assisting staff with activities, outings etc. For more information Phone, Leanne Tucker, Planned Activity/Volunteer Coordinator on (03) 5461 0675
YOUTH SERVICES
Volunteering with Central Goldfields Council's Youth Services provides each young person who comes in with the opportunity to be involved in some of the most unusual, exciting and challenging events that happen in our Shire. People aged 12-24 have the chance to help run almost anything from Film Festivals to Skate Comps, FReeZA Events to Holiday programs, and making some great friends along the way!
All it takes to make the Shire a fantastic place for young people to hang out is your participation for about an hour a week. And at the end of it all you come away with the satisfaction that you've helped plan and run an event that was fun for not only yourself, but for all young people living in the area!
If you, or someone you know, wants to volunteer with Central Goldfields Council Youth Services and help make the Shire a cooler place to live then phone us on (03) 5461 0614.
ART GALLERY
Are you interested in the arts, volunteering within your community or meeting new people? Voluteers are sought to assist in the staffing and operation of Art Gallery on a weekly or fortnightly basis. No prior experience is necessary, however good communication skills and the ability to work unsupervised are essential. If interested, please contactthe Kay Parkin, Art Gallery Manager on (03) 5460 4588.
VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE
Volunteering at the Visitor Centre gives locals an opportunity to find out first hand just what is in the area in the way of attractions and events. If they have a happy disposition and love meeting new people, then the Visitor Centre might be the place for them. Please contact Joel Chadwick, Tourism Manager (03) 5460 4511.
TRANSPORT CONNECTIONS
Transport connections is a rather new initiative and volunteer bus drivers are welcomed by Council as they assist greatly with transporting residents throughout Central Goldfields Shire. Volunteer bus drivers must have a current Victorian drivers Licence. Two of our vehicles require a Light Rigid endorsement. Further enquiries can be directed to the Transport Connections Coordinator on (03) 5460 4508 or mobile 0439 727 684.
If you wish to volunteer in any of these areas please direct enquiries directly to the contact person indicated.
Volunteers are required to undertake Police Checks and in some instances Working with Children checks prior to commencing their volunteering role with Central Goldfields Shire Council. Costs for these checks are currently met by Central Goldfields Shire council. A volunteer reimbursement policy is in place to ensure that Volunteers do not incur "out of pocket" expenses in their volunteering role.
